California Action Alert: Tell Diane Feinstein That We Are Still Here!

Hello Californians!

Our Senator, Diane Feinstein, has sponsored the Social Security Fairness bill for many years, but this year she has decided that nothing would happen in this economic climate and has not yet even co-sponsored John Kerry’s bill yet. The GPO and WEP are still just as wrong, and she is running for re-election. We need to remind her that this is still a huge problem for us. So, during the next few days, please contact at least one of her offices and let her know that we are still expecting her support! One of our members handed her aide our letter on Wed. the 13th. in Washington D.C. We need to follow that up!

Here are some ways you can do this:

1. Call your local office or the DC office and ask to speak to someone who works on Social Security. Tell her to co-sponsor S 2010. (phone numbers below)

2. Download the attached one-page letter and add the address (see below) of her office in your part of the state and mail or fax it. You can also print out a pile of these and have your friends and family sign and then you send them in. (A copy of the letter is at the bottom of this email, also)

3. Go to her official website and cut and paste this comment:

“As your constituent, I want to remind you that any Social Security fix must contain a provision for repealing the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision. We have paid the required FICA taxes and we have earned our benefits! Depriving public servants of their retirement benefits is an outrageous way of resolving the Social Security underfunding issue. Show your support for public servants by co-sponsoring Senate Bill 2010! ”

Please do one of these during the next week! We will be asking various other groups to join us in making this request—CalRTA, CTA-Ret, DKG. Get your friends to do it, also! We want her to hear us!

Please let us know what you hear back.
