Emails for Tuesdays, December 6 & 13
Here is another project that we are asking everyone to complete during these last weeks of the 2021-22 Congressional session: asking members of the Ways and Means to move on H.R. 82. You can help us stay in the game!
Please email and call the offices of the Members of the Ways and Means Committee with this message (the email addresses of their Legislative Assistants are below. Please copy the message and paste it into the email that pops up when you click their address.)
Honorable Ways and Means Committee member,
Now is the time to address the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). We need the members of the Ways and Means Committee to help move repeal forward by signing House Resolution 1367 and working with the Senate Finance Committee to put WEP and GPO repeal into an omnibus bill. We are counting on you to act on the voice of the American people and the 305 members of the House who co-signed H.R. 82.
It is a baseless argument that H.R. 82 does not have funding. The WEP and GPO are earned benefits that retirees have paid for like everyone else.
- The WEP unfairly penalizes the earned benefits of public service workers by an amount equal to as much as 50% of their pension.
- The GPO usually eliminates all the earned Social Security benefits of a dependent or surviving spouse.
Thank you for caring about our elderly citizens!
