ASK THEM TO BE AN ORIGINAL CO-SIGNER ON THE SOCIAL SECURITY FAIRNESS BILL THAT SHERROD BROWN IS GOING TO INTRODUCE SOON.

SHERROD BROWN, D-OHIO, HAS BEEN OUR CHAMPION INTRODUCING THE SENATE BILL TO REPEAL THE OFFSETS FOR THE LAST FEW SESSIONS OF CONGRESS. LET’S SHOW HIM OUR APPRECIATION!

CALL Democrats AND Republicans.  The House repeal bill has 36 Republicans as co-signers. Don’t give up on ANY legislator.  ALSO, please share this information with any of the seniors or senior groups that you have contact with.

Here is the number of the Senate switchboard where you can contact your Senators:

U.S. Capitol Switchboard to call Senate offices. (202) 224-3121.

To find your Senators’ offices here is a link:

https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm

Tell whomever answers for the Senator how badly the offsets have hurt you.  How much you have lost. That you were never told about the offsets. If this applies, how it cuts the Social Security you earned in your second career. Ask your senator to be an original co-sponsor!

  1. Please inform those who have been effective that this our time to let Congress know we have been Short Change for many years Unfairly lets get the Law pass to elimnate this unfair pratice. Please give back to the people who have been hurting for so manys.Vote yes Congress for Change.

  2. The Senators in my State will only give lip service support. The WEP and GPO is for the most part their money pot for additional funding when needed. They are not going to repeal it unless they are forced strongly by their constituents to do so. The Vote is a very powerful tool of this type of force. The people need to vote out of office all of those politicians who refuse to repeal WEP and GPO.

  3. This should have not been allowed as it has affected so many . It’s unfair and just not right . This should be introduced on social media platforms news media to do a story on tell your friend tell veteran group elderly group but most importantly call email your congressman or congresswoman to be a cosponsor . Don’t pass the buck to someone else get out the word and do your part .

  4. You all live in million dollar homes. You were voted into office to do the right thing. Now do it. You must be laughing at us. That was the biggest heist to our SS and yet you all do nothing. Maybe we should all do nothing when you are asking for our vote.

  5. We need more than co-sponsors, we need action. The Former House of Representative Bill 141 had 245 co-sponsors and the former Senate Bill 521 had 38 co-sponsors on March 6, 2020 and they refused to do anything more. People need to stop electing the same people over and over simply because they support their party.

  6. Top priority on this issue is to let everyone who will be affected know BEFORE they retire. I’m one of the few who had a wake-up call about 5 years into my 10-year second career as a teacher, when I was in the SS office for a different purpose. I’ve asked many fellow teachers who started with professional backgrounds (law, geology), and they’ve been unaware of the WEP and deeply concerned. Neither the institution that awards your teaching credentials, the district that hires you, nor the union that represents you lets you know about the retirement funds you’ve just signed up to lose. I’ve been told, however, that it’s the first thing you learn when you walk through the door for your retirement planning meeting. In this Covid year we haven’t had those; I will retire in two months, still not knowing how far off the poverty scale I’ll end up. I’m at the low end, having a bare minimum pension and some portion of a meager Social Security from years of nonprofit jobs. I have tried to get a letter printed in the local newspaper to alert current workers, but to no avail. (And that is one of the rare times I haven’t had a letter printed.) My union promises they will do a survey – well, they promised more than two years ago and something keeps getting in the way. People have to be aware of the WEP and fired up before they retire; states have to realize they’re going to have a hard time recruiting mid-career teachers and other state employees. We have to broaden this fight!

  7. Thanks for the update!!

I understand why some people get frustrated by our representatives who can never seem to get this done. However, I am equally puzzled by all the people who are adversely affected by GPO/WEP, yet they never contact their representatives. I assure you, if even 25% of us contacted our Senators & Congressfolks, these bills would get passed, GPO/WEP would be repealed, and this nonsense would end.

    1. Agreed. It was poorly thought out legislation to begin with. People who double dip government jobs are always ok but if you quit public sector and go to work in the private sector -not ok.
I had no choice. A ruptured brain aneurysm ended my teaching career.
I had to get a job in the private sector. Repealing the WEP would help a lot. Illinois teachers did not pay into S.S.

  8. I am about to lose my home due to this unfair, cruel, senseless provision….the WEP/GPO !
When I retired two years ago, my husband was alive and was receiving a hefty Social Security benefit due to a lifetime of hard work. He died suddenly in 2019 of a stroke leaving me in shock and heartache. On top of my grief, I was made to proactively send back 11 days of pro-rated Social Security benefit as an extra slap in the face to losing him AND his Social Security ! How heartless. I have given 30 years to special education and am proud of my career, but it did cost me my own AND my husband’s Social Security. They are stealing money that we earned through hard work. We must repeal this terribly misdirected provision. I will do anything possible to share my story…….we must make our plight known !! Judi Welch, Retired LAUSD Teacher

  9. It’s hard enough getting by with the WEP/GOP in existence. Please repeal as I’m not in the accumulation mode as I’m in the preservation mode.

  10. Thank you! Repeal these laws! I favor this easy fix to this unfair legislation. Rep. Neal of MA should recommend the support of the repeal of Social Security unfairness GPO and WEP. Sherrod Brown -D Ohio is on the right track to correct this financial loss that so many public servants face at retirement or the death of a spouse.

  11. WEP & GPO penalties keep retirees
(Private industry to Public/ Government service) hugging the poverty line by taking promised earn money of our full work in life paying full price for everything including inflation; transportation; food; shealter; taxes; cable and phones not qualifying for utility discounts with few seniors considerings and no public financial assistance programs. Being Retired should be a joy.

Raise the Bar at lease allowing $1500 mo. to retired employees GPO & WEP calculations. We people of color and women have worked hard and entitled to the fruit of our labor in our golden years. A workman is worthy of his wage.

  12. HELLO: WHOMEVER READS THIS PAGE: YOU CAN FULLY GET “ALL” DEMOCRATS TO SIGN THE H. R. 82 BILL AND THAT WOULD ONLY AMOUNT TO: 218. SOMEONE FROM NEA OR FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE OR NARFE OR ALLIANCE FOR RETIRED AMERICANS “NEEDS TO WRITE” TO PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN ASKING FOR AN “EXECUTIVE ORDER” TO REPEAL WEP. WE WILL N O T GET THIS BILL PASSED THROUGH A “BILL.” REPUBLICANS WILL “NEVER, EVER, EVER” SIGN OFF ON THE REMAINING VOTES NEEDED FOR 290 TO GET A “BILL” PASSED. IT WILL TAKE AN “EXECUTIVE ORDER” FROM JOE BIDEN TO PASS IT LIKE HE “PROMISED US.” THAT’S IT FOLKS, DO N O T COUNT ON GETTING ENOUGH “VOTES” TO PASS A BILL. WON’T HAPPEN…. IF SS FAIRNESS HAS ENOUGH TEACHERS, WRITE TO CALRTA AND “ASK THEM” NO “DEMAND THEM” TO WRITE TO PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN FOR AN EXECUTIVE ORDER. OTHERWISE, EVERYBODY: W E A R E W A S T I N G O U R T I M E P R A Y I N G F O R A “B I L L” T O P A S S. Please get that through your heads. We will NEVER EVER get to 290 votes. We “need” an Executive Order and that has to come from Joe Biden.
