Special to California SSF Members

News Bulletin: Last week, Rodney Davis from Illinois introduced a new bill, H.R.1205, to repeal the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision. Seventy-six other house members are listed as original co-sponsors, including 22 of California’s 53 members of Congress. The California members supporting are listed at the bottom of this Alert.  You can click on their names and thank them!

There are several things happening that might be of particular interest to our SSF members in California, whether or not you belong to CTA/NEA-Ret., CalRTA, or if you have had a career other than teaching.

1. CalRTA (CA Retired Teachers Assn.) will be having a lobby day in Washington,D.C., on April 26,  meeting with all CA Members of Congress. On April 27, there will be meetings with legislators from other states who are in influential positions. For those who do not go to Washington, there will groups meeting with legislative aides in their California home offices. Putting on the pressure is important. Last year there were 19 California Congress Members who did not even sign the GPO/WEP repeal bill. We have work to do!

You are all invited to join the groups who will be visiting home district offices! If you can make it, you can even join the teams in D.C.  If you are interested, please send an email to Bonnie at ssfairness@gmail.com and we will get you connected with others who will be visiting your Congress Person.

2. NEA will be having its annual Representative Assembly in Boston this year (June 30-July 5). This will be an ideal opportunity to connect with retired teachers from other states who are also affected by the offsets. With all the concern about possible changes in Social Security, we need to be vigilant to maintain our issue as part of the discussion.

Thank you for keeping up with us! We get new members every day. Our Facebook page has nearly 2,500 likes. Our SSF email list has more than 4,300 and is growing each day.
