Ways and Means Needs to Hear From All of Us This Week! Comments due by April 30th.

Please Respond to the Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Hearing on the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset!  This is the furthest we have gotten toward action. They need to know we were listening!

Here is a link to the YouTube version of the hearing if you haven’t seen it.

This is the official written Summary of the Hearing: Three Key Moments – Hearing on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) – House Committee on Ways and Means

B. Please send your response to the hearing by email to WMSubmission@mail.house.gov

1. Send emails by the East Coast close of business on Tuesday, April 30, 2024

In the subject line put– “Subcommittee Hearing on the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset”

2.  In the email body itself:

Only state your name, address, telephone number.

3.  Attach your formal statement which must be in Microsoft Word: The statement must not include any personal identification information. If you don’t have Microsoft Word, find a friend who can email your statement for you!

Explain how the offset/s affect you in detail.

  • State the amount of money you will lose/have lost because of the offsets.
  • Describe the effects on your life.
  • Be sure to include when you learned that you would be affected by the Offsets and how not knowing about them earlier has affected your retirement.

Other things you could mention:

  • You and/or your spouse paid into Social Security like everyone else.
  • State if you paid into FICA (SS), but not enough to earn your own benefits.
  • Explain that the information that was originally used in calculating the offsets was not up to date or was not accurate, if that is true for you.
  • Do you get no benefits even though you were a non-earning spouse for ten years or more?

If you are looking for more ideas that you might include in your statement, there are suggestions at the bottom of our March 24th Alert on SSFairness.org.

Thank you for sticking with us! The Offsets are wrong. They MUST be repealed!
