Here is today’s message to members of the Senate Finance Committee whose support we need to repeal the WEP/GPO. Please copy the statement below and paste it into the email form, addressed to their Legislative Assistant, that pops up when you click on their underlined address. You can also call them since they are on the Senate Finance Committee and you are addressing a national issue.

Dear Senator,
I am asking members of the Senate Finance Committee for support in moving forward
S. 1302 – Social Security Fairness Act (Brown -OH, Collins-MA) by including it in an omnibus bill during the lame duck session. This bi-partisan bill would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), penalties that financially harm millions of retirees across our nation.
The WEP and GPO cut or eliminate earned Social Security benefits that retirees have paid for. The WEP penalizes the earned benefits of public service workers by as much as 50% of their public pension. The GPO usually eliminates all of the earned Social Security benefits of a qualified dependent spouse.
Now is the time to take action to repeal these two unjust penalties. S. 1302 has already garnered strong support in the Senate. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, you understand how important repeal of the WEP and GPO are for this nation’s public employees. Please support our nation’s public employees and our teachers by repealing these unfair offsets. Thank you!
